The Scrape & Sweep fits most common broom and mop handles, with widths that range from a narrow 13/16 inches wide, as do small kitchen brooms and sponge mops, up to 1 and 1/8 inches wide, as with large wooden push brooms. That means the Scrape & Sweep attaches to the ends of almost all the brooms and mops you already own!
Buy one for your kitchen broom and another for your garage or porch broom - you will be so glad that you did!
Why the Scrape & Sweep was invented
The Scrape & Sweep Broom Handle Attachment was invented out of necessity. The need for the device was discovered when my daughter was an infant and learning to feed herself apple sauce and crisped rice cereal, using a spoon. She would often drop these foods on the kitchen floor, and sometimes these incidents would go unnoticed until after the food had dried. I would then find myself kneeling on the floor, scraping off dried-up applesauce and crisped rice cereal with a butter knife, so I could sweep the mess into a dustpan and then mop the floor.
You have probably experienced something like this yourself. Trying to remove dried-up food by scrubbing it off with a soapy rag, sponge, or mop, often requires a lot of time and effort – and sometimes, the food is not able to be scrubbed off, it can only be scraped off, isn’t that right?
One winter morning, I tried using a plastic ice scraper and discovered this was much better than using a metal knife, because I could use the plastic blade to scrape off any dried-up food I found on my kitchen table, stove, and countertop also, without scratching those surfaces – like the butter knife did!
Eventually, I decided to tape the ice scraper to the end of my broom handle, so I would not have to kneel down on the kitchen floor; but then, it was difficult to use the scraper elsewhere.
After giving it some thought, I came up with a way to shape a piece of PVC pipe into a tubular handle that I could attach to the ice scraper with screws to form a single unit. This device could then be slid on to the broom handle to clean floors, and then slid off to clean other surfaces.
That first prototype has gradually evolved into the superior model sold today.
